thyssenkrupp supplying 9,500 tons of line pipe for gas pipelines
thyssenkrupp Schulte, part of the Materials Services business area, has once again demonstrated its expertise as a logistics provider and pipe specialist. Following an EU tender process, the company won a contract to supply line pipe with a special plastic coating for the construction and renovation of three gas pipelines in the German states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Laid end to end, the 9,500 tons of pipe would stretch a length of 115,000 meters.
“The gas pipelines are key to securing energy supply to Saxony-Anhalt and the surrounding regions. So in addition to the customer’s exacting requirements for materials and logistics, we also set ourselves very high standards,” says Cay-Hubertus Fink, project manager at thyssenkrupp Schulte Leipzig.
The first 35,000 meters of pipe was delivered to Zwenkau on March 5, 2018. Delivery of three further orders totaling 85,000 meters will follow from August 1, 2018 to storage areas in Zerbst, Sachsendorf, Coswig and Altenburg. The last of the roughly 460 truckloads will be delivered on November 23, 2018.
The gas pipelines are part of construction projects being carried out by ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH aimed at securing gas supply to the regions between Leipzig and Zwickau for many years to come. The pipe is being manufactured by Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH in Hamm using material from thyssenkrupp Steel and Salzgitter.
The replacement of the gas pipelines between Lauchhammer and Strehla, Räpitz and Niederhohndorf, and Leps and Trajuhn is part of a multi-year renovation plan by ONTRAS Gastransport to improve the safety and efficiency of the pipelines.
