thyssenkrupp Schulte develops new generation of cooling tubes
thyssenkrupp Schulte, a company of the Materials Services business area, has developed a completely new generation of cooling tubes for the water cooling of generators under a project for Siemens’ Power & Gas Division. After more than two years of development the new stainless steel tubes are now production-ready.
The new cooling tubes can withstand extreme loads, particularly with regard to yield strength and flexural strength. The aim of the project was to replace the previously used seamless tubes with more effective welded tubes. Following extensive tests this has finally proved possible.
“The big challenge was to develop a product that met all the customer’s technical requirements and at the same time allowed a significant cost reduction. We have achieved both, and it was only possible thanks to close cooperation with the customer,” explains sales manager Gerald Mulot.
Siemens’ Power & Gas Division offers a wide range of products and solutions for public utilities, independent electricity producers, equipment manufacturers and customers in the oil and gas industry. Its portfolio includes powerful electricity generators that have to be cooled via tubes – just the job for thyssenkrupp Schulte. In close cooperation with the customer the company created innovative stainless steel tubes that significantly limit heating of the generators.
From the start of production in 2018 all Siemens sites worldwide will be supplied with the new cooling tubes via the logistics center in Essen.
