thyssenkrupp opens up ideas for careers on “Logistics Day”: vocational students explore thyssenkrupp logistics center
On Thursday, April 27 vocational students in Dortmund were given totally new insights into the world of logistics. As part of “Logistics Day”, Marcus Raback, general plant manager, took 47 youngsters on an exclusive guided tour of thyssenkrupp’s Dortmund Logistics Center (LC) to find out more about the career opportunities available. “The young people are amazed at the sophisticated supply chain that ensures goods get from A to B safely and on time,” says Raback.
Particularly impressive are the capacities of the site: LC Dortmund is the world’s biggest central warehouse for stainless steel and nonferrous metals. “These are all new dimensions. I am really fascinated by all the necessary processes”, says Dennis Jakobi, a logistics apprentice at a furniture store. And more than 30 machines are on hand to process, cut and prepare the heavyweight materials in line with customer specifications.

“We attach great importance to developing new talent and for this reason we are also involved in Girls Day and Boys Day which are held in parallel with Logistics Day,” says Stefanie Zähler, head of apprenticeship training at LC Dortmund.
