thyssenkrupp makes waymarkers shine
New pylons are being installed at the sites of Bayer subsidiary Covestro. All have one thing in common: They are fitted with high-quality LEDs supplied by thyssenkrupp Plastics. In detail the order comprises 27,000 LED modules including 320 control gears and 270 dimmers. The material is being installed in a total of 37 pylons across Europe by RPKmedia from Ratingen.
The LED reflectors were made from 5 mm Makrolon® DX cool UV panels supplied directly by the Belgian Covestro facility. Simon Pohlkamp from Sales at thyssenkrupp Plastics explains what this entailed: “Achieving bright and homogeneous illumination with Makrolon® was a new challenge due to its specific product properties.” In close collaboration with their supplier SloanLED and customer RPKmedia, the plastics experts from thyssenkrupp ultimately found a suitable solution that utilizes the full potential of the material.
And the results are impressive: The LEDs are installed in pylons up to 4.20 meters high and 1.20 meters wide. The distinctive feature of the signs is the striking and colorful Covestro logo. They also take account of sustainability aspects: The LEDs come with an automatic dimmer function which modifies their brightness depending on light levels.
